Work profile of DEO / Postal Assitant / LDC / Court Clerks Selected Through SSC CHSL Exam

The very common question we get from our readers is what is the nature of the job of Lower Divisional Clerk and Data Entry Operator selected through SSC Combined Higher Secondary Level exam. What they actually do when they got selected. Well, through this article I'll try to answer those questions to my best knowledge and research.

One important thing which we want you to understand there is a slight difference between the Bank Clerk and SSC LDC/DEO. The Clerk of a bank like SBI Clerk is more stressed job than SSC LDC.

It is because Bank Clerk's job include direct interaction with the public and sometimes they have to do marketing of bank's products. Let's see what they actually do:

As the name itself is giving the idea what it's all about. Both are clerical job with one distinction only. Generally in offices, they do simple tasks. Daily work include:

(a) Maintenance of documents.
(b) Receiving and sending of documents.
(c) Typing of letters and sending them through post and FAX.
(d) Making salary of office staff.

  9. I was selected as in SSC chsl exam 2013 and posted in CSD Depot as LDC(Office). CSD Dept is one of the worst among central govt. Here I am working in Establishment Section under one in- charge. But to my astonishment my working condition is like multi-tasking staff. I am maintaining all related register, typing & printing documents, sending & receiving emails, making ER, passing bills, drafting letters, filling & forwarding HRA, TA/DA, LTC, Life certificates for pensioners, preparing leave Orders, etc etc.. But apart from busy work schedule the manager used to call me many times in a day giving different works like making xerox copy, stationery issue, other suppliers needs, etc. The job of LDC in CSD Dept is very hectic and the job is like running here & there apart from doing various work. I enquire about other Deptts and they are OK, because LDC's jobs are clearly defined. But in CSD the job of LDC is pathetic.
