GK Syllabus, Books and Strategy for SSC CGL Exam

The general awareness section is all about how many general knowledge facts you can store in your brain's memory. So in GK you just have to gather the facts and store them in your brain's hard disk and answer the questions in exam.
The GK which comes in SSC exams is very different from which you have seen in Bank and Insurance exams. The bank and insurance exams' GK is more Current Affairs and Banking Awareness focused but SSC GK is more General Studies focused.

So let's talk about the syllabus details of SSC CGL GK. The GK is only in Tier - I and it comprised of 50 Marks. The following are the topics of SSC GK
  1. Indian History
  2. Indian Polity
  3. Geography
  4. Economics & Indian Economy
  5. General Science (Physics, Chemistry & Biology)
  6. Computer Knowledge
  7. Miscellaneous
Some important points to remember about the GK syllabus SSC CGL exam.
  • There will be 5 or 6 questions each from all the topics given above except miscellaneous.
  • General Science will have 10-15 question. Physics, Chemistry & Biology. Each topic carries 5 marks questions each.
  • History means Indian History only. They hardly ask World History questions. Sometimes 1 or 2. So don't waste your time in world history and skip world history.
  • There are two parts of Geography from which the questions are asked they are Indian Geography and Physical Geography.
  • Economics part contains 2 topics, Indian Economy and Economics. Indian Economy is the study of Indian Economic system and Economics comprises two topics i.e., Microeconomics and Macroeconomics.

Books to prepare this syllabus

1. Lucent's General Knowledge: Lucent's General Knowledge is the best book for GK. It comes with all the topics of GK given above excep Economics that is Micro and Macro Economics. You can do that from Class 12th NCERT Economics. Just get Lucent's GK start mugging up the facts.

3. Kiran Chapterwise GK Previous Years Questions since 1997 till date: It is very important to have a clear understanding of what kind of GK questions SSC like to ask. So for this you'll require a book which comes with all the GK questions asked in all the SSC exams held till date.

The biggest advantage of Kiran Chapterwise Book is it is not just like any other previous years questions book.
